About the Company

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a not-for-profit corporation that operates three Federally-Funded Research Centers (FFRDCs): the Systems and Analyses Center serving the Department of Defense; the Science and Technology Policy Institute serving the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the National Science Foundation, the National Science Board, and other offices and councils within the executive branch of the federal government; and the Center for Communications and Computing serving the National Security Agency. IDA provides objective analyses of national security issues and related national challenges, particularly those requiring extraordinary scientific and technical expertise.

The Strategy, Forces and Resources Division (SFRD), one of eight research divisions within the Alexandria-based Systems and Analyses Center, performs interdisciplinary analyses of plans and policies related to national security strategy; the structure and capabilities of US, allied and adversary forces; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense; global developments in military technologies; and human capital challenges. In addition, the Division assists U.S. agencies in organizational management challenges, including development, implementation, and improvement of the management processes necessary to sustain efficient and effective national security establishments.

We seek a senior-level executive and leader with extensive experience in:

The selected individual must have familiarity with US military strategy and force planning, national security management processes and organizations, and an understanding of how advanced systems and technologies affect US national security. S/he should have a working knowledge of federal decision-making processes, the role of analysis in national security decision-making, and civilian or military experience in government.

We are looking for a team player who can interact effectively with senior leadership in the Department of Defense and other sponsoring offices; work cooperatively with other IDA research groups and IDA’s Corporate Operations; and engage with a diverse set of government organizations and advisory groups.

An advanced degree in a national security-relevant discipline is required for this position. The selected individual should have a deep understanding of analysis and analytical methods; be able to provide leadership in the development of high-quality products in support of SFRD’s missions; and a record of success in creating and sustaining a high-performing analytic organization.

IDA offers a competitive salary, an excellent benefits package and a superior professional working environment. IDA is located in a modern office facility minutes from the Pentagon. To the right individual, IDA offers the opportunity to have a major impact on key national programs and plans.
