Purpose of Position

Performs preventative maintenance, tune-ups, and repairs on university vehicles.

 

Essential Functions

Examines vehicle with use of Diagnostic and Scanner equipment.

Plans work procedures.

Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.

Removes, disassemble, assemble, and cleans units such as engines.

Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.

Rewires ignition systems, lights, and instrument panel.

Observes ignition timing and adjusts timing.

Relines and adjusts brakes or replaces brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.

Inspects vehicles for damaged body.

Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.

Removes spark plugs and tests them.

Examines battery and connections and electrical charging and starting circuit.

Adjusts, and repairs fan belt, fuel and water pumps, filters, and spark plugs.

Changes oils.

Tests vehicles on Emissions Analyzer.

Must be available on an “On Call” basis.

Overtime may be required.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

One year certificate from college or technical school within area of assigned responsibility and one year of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  May be required to use Personal Protective Equipment to include:  Steel toe or Non-slippery shoes, back belt, eye protection, and ear protection.
